Here’s another good reason to use water filters.  Contaminated water has surfaced again and Erin Brockovich is back.  This June 2009 she began investigating for 40 families in a residential area of Midland Texas.   Some of them have been diagnosed with kidney problems and at least one child has stomach tumours.  The residents are terrified they will get cancer.  Their water was yellow and has since been identified as containing hexavalent chromium also know as Chromium 6. This is the same chemical that was found in Hinkley, California.  The only difference is that the levels are much higher than Hinkley.

Bob Bowcock an environmental investigator cites the cause as Schlumberger, an oil field services company. Schlumberger, denies this and says they haven’t used Chromium6.

Erin Brockovich is well known for the famous case that she  brought against Pacific Gas and Electric of California in 1993. This was the basis of an award winning movie starring Julia Roberts as Brockovich. The center of the case was the Hinkley compressor station, part of a natural gas pipeline which connects into the San Francisco Bay area.

The company used hexavalent chromium to fight corrosion in the cooling tower.  The wastewater dissolved the hexavalent chromium from the cooling towers and this was discharged into unlined ponds on the site.  This water then seeped into the groundwater, which in turn affected the area around the plant. The people in the area got sick and Brockovich helped them win their case and get the biggest pay out to date, $333 million.

As Brockovich says, ‘If some pharmaceutical giant has secretly been fouling your water table and your drinking water has been contaminated with Chromium 6, I’m concerned.’

The 40 affected families in Midland, Texas have been fitted with state monitored water filters.

It is known that tap water contains chlorine and fluoride.  Interestingly, the two top contaminants Americans are most concerned about in drinking water are lead and arsenic.  However, what has not been so well known is the report written by the Environmental Working Group which has found that there are over 140 contaminants without safety limits in US drinking water.

Shockingly, these contaminants contain residues of birth control pills, anti-depressants, antibiotics, painkillers and shampoos which the population excretes into sewage treatment plants and are then flushed into our waterways.  Combine this with the industrial and agricultural waste which include pesticides and herbicides, and urban waste which includes plasticizers, solvents, repellents and chemicals from cars and we are drinking a poisonous chemical cocktail.

The consequence of this lethal cocktail is drug-resistant bacteria, huge increases in estrogen resulting in low sperm count and deformities in fish.  The most serious consequence is that the US population is being mass medicated without permission.  There is enough evidence now to link Prozac with depression, schizophrenia and suicide.

More evidence that water filters and ionizers are an essential part of modern day living.  Buying water filters and ionizers is no longer just a fad by the ‘Greenies’  but every day commonsense to protect the minds and bodies of ourselves and our children.  So, buying a water filter may just save your life.

Humanity has been using some form of water filtration system for around 6,000 years to remove cloudiness from water. Water filters today remove many of the invisible impurities and poisonous contaminants from our drinking water and give us water that looks, tastes and smells  good.

Most water filters use a carbon or activated carbon filtering system which removes contaminants and impurities.  Some of these contaminants are:  chlorine, parasites, cysts, e-coli, cryptosporidium, chemicals, solids, and flu virus which, when removed, may prevent us from getting ill.  Carbon filtering does not remove minerals.

The ionizing process splits the water into acid water and alkaline water using the calcium and magnesium ions.  The Alkaline part of the water has an alkaline Ph, is wonderful to drink and is full of negatively charged ions.  Negatively charged oxygen ions are the good ions which are found naturally in nature, near a water fall, after a rainstorm, walking along a beach. They make us feel alive.  Alkaline water is beneficial to drink for humans and animals.

The Acid water is for external use only, to wash the body and water plants. Acid water has an acid PH,  though it is not an acid.  Very strong acid water kills many spores including; E-coli, gangrene, salmonella and anthrax.

Buying a water filter gives a better tasting, better looking, and odor free water that benefits our health and is safe to drink. Ionizing water rejuvenates filtered water and makes it alkaline to stop disease, help anti-aging and allow the cells to fully hydrate.
